Harbor Light Inn:
Marblehead is one of the great sailing capitals of the world today as it was in centuries past when tall-masted schooners carried the products of a new nation to and from Europe and the Far East. 17th- and 18th-century homes crowd the narrow, winding streets of one of the most popular places to visit on the New England coast. Within this historic district is an elegantly decorated inn that will make you feel as though you have stepped back in time while enjoying all the amenities of the 21st century. I loved the flowered wallpapers used in the front hallway, in the dining room, and in the parlors. Guestrooms have king and queen beds, some with canopies, most have fireplaces, some have decks or patios, some have double Jacuzzis, but all provide a cozy ambiance and fine furnishings. Enjoy the stunning view from the rooftop walk from which you can see the famous Marblehead light. Surprisingly in a town where houses crowd the streets, there is a lovely garden and a heated swimming pool. This is a formal inn but one of such comfort that you will instantly feel the warm welcome of the inn’s staff and become yet another of its centuries of houseguests. Breakfast is served in either the original dining room with the large mahogany table or in the garden room overlooking the pool and garden. Guests can now enjoy the inhouse pub.
