Karen's Review Of This Property:
Listed in the National Registry, the Camden Maine Stay is a grand old New England home dating from 1802. It was actually built by Alden Bass, a direct descendant of John Alden, who came over on the Mayflower. Camden is one of those picturesque towns surrounded by hills from which you peer down onto a harbor of schooners and boating activity—for me as mesmerizing as staring into a star-filled evening sky. The Camden Maine Stay is delightfully decorated and shipshape in every respect, and you’ll find any one of the rooms to be totally comfortable for as long as you can stay. There’s a variety of accommodation both in the main house and the attached carriage house, from the two-bedroom Amelia Huse Suite with its own sitting room to my favorite, the cozy Carriage House with its private patio overlooking the spectacular gardens that buffer one from any sense of reality. There is no such thing here as a room that I would not love to stay in for nights on end. Two inviting parlors provide guests with comfortable places to relax and chat with one another. There’s also a sitting room with fireplace, TV, and DVD player and, of course, a porch—the kind that makes New England inns so very special. A huge Aga stove warms the kitchen and bakes all the wonderful food that you’ll enjoy at breakfast. You can walk to everything in town and the innkeepers are happy to steer you in the right direction for all the interesting places to visit in the area.
