The Inn & Spa at Intercourse Village

I must admit it was not only the "Winner of the Top Ten Romantic Inns Award" but also the name of the village in the midst of Amish country in Lancaster County that caught my attention and drew me to this wonderful property, whose level of service and quality of accommodation are actually more in keeping with an elegant country inn than a B&B. This attractive, white-shuttered, two-story building dates back to 1909 and in the main house the decor is very Victorian, respecting the period of the home. On the entry level are two guest salons, the formal dining room where a five-course, gourmet, candlelit breakfast is served each morning, and a kitchen with a refrigerator stocked with beverages for guests. Spanning the length of the home on the third floor under the angled rooflines is the dramatic Grand Suite. Behind the main house, stretching along the garden path to the back lawn and gazebo, are a number of cottages housing some gorgeous, beautifully designed accommodations—the Grand Suites and the Country Homestead Suites. I loved these rooms with their small, welcoming candlelights in the windows, country reproduction furnishings, attractive stenciling, Berber carpets, and fireplaces. We peeked into the Beiler Suite, which was lovely with a theme of horses and a sitting area apart from the bedroom.
