Fairthorne Bed & Breakfast

Built in 1892 by a whaling captain, the Fairthorne is a lovely historic properties in the picturesque summer seashore resort of Cape May. It has broad wrap-around porches and, of course, those rockers in which you can relax away an hour or two. This inn is built in the Colonial Revival style: when you enter its wide front hall, there is a parlor on the left and a staircase that climbs to the bedrooms on the second floor. Each of the nine comfortably furnished rooms, some with fireplaces, is named for a woman with historic ties to the house. The Emma Kate suite features a bedroom with a king bed, an adjoining sitting room with a sofa before a fireplace. The Alexandra Suite, located on the top floor, features king bed and a separate room with a two person tub and fireplace. Bridget’s Room, overlooking the gardens, has a queen bed with an antique armoire. Next door, The Cottage has three guestrooms named for the Hutchinson’s granddaughters. A gourmet breakfast is served each morning with juice, fruit, freshly baked breads and muffins, and a hot entrée. In the afternoon guests can enjoy tea and light refreshments and before retiring, a glass of sherry by the parlor’s fireplace. Beach towels and chairs, bicycles and parking are all complimentary. Restaurants and shopping are as near as the wonderful beach.
