Villa Montaña Hotel & Spa

Snuggled on a hillside overlooking Morelia lies one of our favorite inns, the charming Villa Montaña Hotel & Spa. For many years it has been known as one of the finest small hotels in all of Mexico. The entrance sets the mood of refinement and good taste with an enormous stone fireplace, massive oil paintings, exuberant bouquets of fresh flowers, an antique reception desk, and a huge wrought-iron chandelier. The magic continues in the parklike grounds, which are stunning: everywhere you look there are treasures—from whimsical fountains to romantic statuary—all lovingly chosen by the artistic owner whose passion for handicrafts and antiques is obvious in every tiny detail. Brick pathways lace the property, leading to the 36 suites, each different in layout and distinct in design with wood furniture, handcrafted accessories, and fine European antiques. The ceilings are vaulted with thick wood beams and supported by carved columns. Fireplaces make the rooms cozy at night in winter, while sunny afternoons can be enjoyed poolside with a beautiful panoramic view of the city of Morelia below. The gourmet restaurant features both international and local dishes, with a wonderful ambiance and fine cuisine. On balmy evenings dinner is served outside on a terrace with an incomparable panorama.
