Dolphin Cove Inn

Dolphin Cove Inn is a gem. A real discovery if you are looking for a well-priced, charmingly decorated place to stay with breathtaking views that can’t be surpassed anywhere in Mexico, not at any price. Enhanced by impeccably groomed gardens and brilliant displays of bougainvillea, the bedrooms are nestled in clusters of white buildings hugging a steep hillside next to the world-class Las Hadas Resort. Dolphin Cove Inn is a select group of 50 suites (from studios to three bedrooms), which are run like an intimate hotel within a large complex called PlayaSol Manzanillo. Every room has either a balcony or terrace capturing a romantic panorama of the deep-blue bay backdropped by green volcanic hills. Every suite has a well-equipped kitchenette, a bathroom decorated with hand-painted Talavera tiles, colorful hand-loomed fabrics, and enchanting headboards carved by the Tarascan Indians. If you are economizing, the studios are fabulous, but the one-bedroom suites with huge terraces are exceptionally appealing and offer outstanding value. A maze of staircases laces the property, leading to the swimming pool and, just below, a beach. The main attraction at Dolphin Cove is just relaxing: reading a novel, sleeping late, taking a swim, a quiet stroll on the beach. However, golf and tennis are readily available. Note: Dolphin Cove’s many steps make it unsuitable for those with a walking problem.

We recently stayed at the Dolphin Cove Inn which was recommended in the October newsletter. Although we had no travel plans, we felt the fantastic deal was too good to pass up. Are we glad we did! The Inn is everything the website shows and more. It was our first foray into that part of Mexico and we are already planning a visit next year. We stayed in suite 1105 as it was the only one available with a living room, but have our sights already on 1006. The staff was marvelous. Starting with Isis and Edgar in the office, Anita in housekeeping, Filemon in security, and Jose, Claudia and Socorro in the restaurant. They are all fantastic. For the last 12 years we have been using the Karen Brown Guides when planning our trips to Europe and have never been disappointed, and true to form we were very pleased again this year. The rates were wonderful, especially with the special offer. We hope the future increases will not be too considerable. We can't wait for our next visit in early 2009. Congratulations on an excellent property!!
