Karen's Review Of This Property:
Dating back to the 17th century, the handsome Hotel Mansión Iturbe has a rich history. In 1830, it was given as a dowry gift by Francisco de Iturbe to his daughter, Paca, when she married Francisco de Arriaga y Peralta; and the home has been in the same family ever since. It has now been converted into a small hotel, but the interior still reflects its past grandeur. As is typical with these beautiful Colonial buildings, the house sits directly on the street with many of the rooms facing onto an interior garden courtyard with a galleried walkway on the second level. Inside, the Spanish-style décor features heavy carved furniture and walls painted in deep tones of mustard yellow and red. The hotel’s most outstanding attribute is its unsurpassable location—it is absolutely center stage, overlooking Pátzcuaro’s stunning Plaza Vasco de Quiroga, without a doubt one of the most beautiful squares in Mexico. Best of all, in three bedrooms facing the plaza you can open wide your French doors and step out onto a small wrought-iron balcony to savor the ever-changing scene before you. Although less spacious than the others, but in my opinion the best, ask for 11, 12, or 14 (11 is smaller, but has the same view). To make reservations in English, it is best to contact the hotel via email or fax.
