Karen's Review Of This Property:
Verana is a truly unique resort: a secluded hotel that has an intriguing blend of primitive simplicity and subtle sophistication. A 25-minute drive south from the Puerto Vallarta Airport to the tiny fishing village of Boca de Tomatlán, a half-hour boat ride to Yelapa (accessible only by sea), followed by a 20-minute hike up a mountainous path through the jungle bring you to a nondescript gate with a small sign, “Verana.” As you turn back and look down across the dense foliage, you get a breathtaking view of blue sea with a crescent of beach edged by the colorful village of Yelapa. The hotel has just seven guesthouses, five in individual cottages and two sharing one house. Each is unique in style and eclectic in furnishings—some are ultra-modern, some cozy with antique accents—but each is extremely appealing to the eye. All of the houses have a close-to-nature mood, but my favorite, the Palapa, is really special. It is like luxury camping, with waist-high stone walls, no windows at all, various levels of sitting and sleeping areas, a large terrace, and a shower open to the stars. Meals are served on a terrace with a glorious view of the bay where, in season, whales can often be spotted. Guests enjoy relaxing by the stunning swimming pool, which seems to float over the jungle. All meals are included for an additional $80 per person per day.
