Hotel Torcolo

The charming Hotel Torcolo is a real find and has one of the best locations in Verona—just a two-minute walk to the huge plaza in front of the Roman Arena, the highlight of Verona. Although officially categorized as a two-star hotel, it far outshines many hotels twice the price. If you appreciate simple, sweet hotels with lots of warmth and character, you will love the Torcolo. The building, which dates back over 200 years, was purchased and renovated by your hostess, Silvia, in the mid 1950s. After a few years, her grade school chum, Diana, joined her. Both women, and the entire staff, are exceptionally accommodating and are wonderful in assisting with sightseeing plans and restaurant suggestions. Together the two women run the hotel with great efficiency and outstanding warmth. You walk into a cozy little reception area. An elevator takes you up to the guestrooms, none of which are opulent, but each is very nicely decorated with style and good taste. Most of the furnishings are antiques which are accented by pretty fabrics such as white linen curtains. Although some of the rooms are larger, I fell in love with room 31, romantically tucked up under the eves with exposed beamed ceiling and two cute corner windows overlooking the narrow colorful street.
