This perfectly delightful small hotel with street or canal-side entrances, exudes the charm and elegance of the 15th century when it was built as the private mansion of a wealthy Venetian. The location is superb—in the historical heart of Venice, only 100 meters from Saint Mark’s Square, yet on a quiet canal where the gentle singing of gondoliers will lull you to sleep at night. When redoing the hotel, the Polo Family spared no expense to ensure that every detail is of the highest quality and that the furnishings reflect the grandeur of Venice. Adept manager Andrea Doria not only takes an intense personal interest in the hotel’s perfection but also welcomes guests as friends. All of the bedrooms with marble bathrooms are decorated in classic Venetian style, with similar decor in each: damask fabric walls, matching draperies, speckled marble floors, antique-style furnishings, and, in the rooms with high ceilings, Murano glass chandeliers. Just the colors of the fabric-covered walls vary from one delightful room to the next. Much smaller than the others, but especially romantic is a room tucked under the rafters with its own little rooftop terrace. Downstairs there is a comfortable bar area and breakfast room with faux window and painted scenes of Venice. For other meals, a limitless number of restaurants are just steps away. The hotel has ten additional rooms next door in the Locanda Remedio, plus three nicely decorated one and two-bedroom suites.
