Le Logge di Silvignano Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Le Logge di Silvignano

Le Logge di Silvignano, a stunning castle of creamy-beige stone, embraces one side of a tiny 12th-century village with a population of about 85 people tucked high in the hills north of Spoleto. It is not surprising to learn the building was originally a strategic lookout to guard against enemy attack since the setting is breathtaking, with a sweeping view of the narrow valley far below. Although termed a “castle” the structure is not in the least foreboding, but rather a splendid edifice with a handsome, open, arched gallery supported by ornately carved, octagonal pillars stretching across the front. There are six beautiful, individually decorated suites, all extremely attractive with medieval stone floors accenting handsome furniture which is either antique or handcrafted locally of wood or wrought iron. The fine bed linens and fabrics are woven locally from the Montefalco looms. A huge terrace, magically transformed into a romantic, manicured garden enhanced by fragrant, colorful roses, spreads in front of the castle to the edge of the bluff. Although Le Logge would be a winner by any standards, it is the genuine warmth and charm of your lovely hosts that make a stay here so outstanding. For dinner, guests can prepare a light meal in their own kitchenette or dine in a local restaurant. The hotel has a beautiful pool with views of the valley and a club house where guests can relax or dine upon reservation.

We were two very weary, elderly travelers who arrived at Logge di Silvignano just as the sun was setting. Frazzled by a travel day that included driving a rental car out of Rome, trying, but never finding the fountains of Tivoli, and three hours of being lost in the hills above Spoleto, we were exhausted. Croissants for breakfast and two apricots for lunch were the sum total of what we had eaten all day. We were starving, our spirits at rock bottom - seemingly unrecoverable - that is until we found ourselves under the magic spell of our hosts, Diana and Alberto in the beautiful surroundings of Logge di Sivignano in Umbria.
Our rooms embraced us. Stone walls, old world charm, spacious, all the things we’d hoped Umbria was going to be were right here. On the terrace we were served wine and tasty morsels. As we drank, we watched the sun go down over an expansive valley view. And because we couldn’t face getting in the car again to go out to eat, Diana and Alberto served us a light dinner in a cozy, romantic dining room. The frustrations of the day faded, joy and delight returned.
I don’t think we’ve ever felt so welcome - anywhere.

This magical castle tucked away in the hills in a charming medieval village is truly an experience you will never forget. The hosts, Alberto and Dianna are very helpful, charming, and welcoming. The original tower in the hotel is from the 10th century and you feel like you have travled through time to a storybook land. The trees bear delicious black prunes and surrounding area is kind of place you come and never want to leave.
