Le Cinciallegre B & B and Farm Holidays

We enjoyed our stay at Cinciallegre very much. The hospitality, food and views were spectacular. Fabrizio and Cristina were wonderful hosts. The rustic but comfortable accommodations were great after long days of exploring the nearby Umbrian hill towns of Gubbio, Spello and Montefalco. The setting for Cinciallegre is very rural and quiet with hazy vistas of the hills and surrounding valleys. Cristina offers cooking classes which will take advantage of next time.

Le Cinciallegre is a collection of beautifully restored 13th-century buildings just outside of Gubbio managed by Fabrizio and his wife, Maria Cristina. After ten splendid but hectic days in Rome and Florence, we arrived at Le Cinciallegre and encountered a haven of comfort, peace, and tranquility. My husband, two daughters and I were warmly greeted by Fabrizio, Cristina and their two dogs, Gastone and Yasmine. At Le Cinciallegre, enchanting rustic stone buildings are framed by flower-filled patios and surrounded by trees and mountains that soften at dusk to a hue of smoky purple-blue. Our lovely rooms were spacious and immaculate with large windows to allow in the sweet air and sounds of nature. Each room possesses a private patio to enjoy a good book, conversation, or the exquisite beauty of the surrounding countryside.

Returning home to dinner each evening was always a high point of our day—a time to relax and absorb the stunning sights we had witnessed. Fabrizio cultivates the produce used in Cristina’s cooking, the meats and cheeses are produced locally, and even the honey is harvested from Fabrizio’s beehives. My daughter and I are on special diets and had struggled in Rome and Florence to find high-quality, delicious food. Our search ended with Cristina, who prepared a series of meals we still dream about—perfect risottos, succulent meat dishes, vegetables picked just hours earlier, and desserts that can only be described as divine.

Best of all, we would have an opportunity each night to chat with Fabrizio, who speaks wonderful English and is a fascinating individual who, with Cristina, has lived all over the world. He provided invaluable information about how best to spend our days touring nearby hill towns and locations of interest. When the time came to depart, we were saddened; not only were we leaving a kind of paradise, we were leaving two new and cherished friends in Fabrizio and Cristina.

Le Cinciallegre is an extraordinary place run by two remarkable people. Of all the experiences we enjoyed during our 16-day Italian odyssey, staying at Le Cinciallegre and getting to know Fabrizio and Maria Cristina will remain one we will remember most fondly.
