How to get to Locanda San Francesco
By car:
From the North: Take the A1 Motorway, exit at Valdichiana-Bettole. Turn left (direction Montepulciano), pass through Bettole and Torrita di Siena.
At the traffic light in Torrita, turn left (direction Montepulciano) and continue till you reach the roundabout with signs for "Montepulciano-Via Nottola" and “Montepulciano”. Turn right here, following the signs for Montepulciano.
After about 7 km, the road ends in a ’T’ intersection. Turn right and proceed toward the town. At the roundabout proceed as follows:
- turn left and follow the tree-lined boulevard
- take the first right (immediately after the Unicredit Bank and ACI, on your right) and follow the road, which has a slight incline followed by a downhill stretch)
- take the first right on the downhill stretch (Via dei Filosofi, signs for "Centro Storico-Piazza Grande-Parcheggio n. 8"). From this point, at every intersection you must take the road going up.
- ascending Via dei Filosofi, pass the entrance to Parcheggio 8. At the intersection, take a hard right and shortly after a hard left (still ascending), and follow the signs for "Duomo-Fortezza-Centro Storico"
- Go through the stone gate and follow the road to the Piazza Grande. Here you will be in the "ZTL," the restricted traffic zone. When you arrive at the Locanda you will be given a permit.
- Cross the Piazza, keeping to the left, and go down the hill along Via Ricci (passing the Town Hall and a Tobacco Shop on the left) until you reach Piazza San Francesco

From the South: Take the A1 Motorway, exit at Chiusi-Chianciano Terme. Turn left (direction Chianciano and Montepulciano).
When you arrive at Chianciano, follow the signs for Montepulciano. About 4 km past the hamlet of Sant’Albino, you arrive at the intersection for Pienza-Montepulciano-San Biagio. Proceed as follows:
- turn right then immediately left, the road is on an incline
- take the first left – Via dei Filosofi, signs for “Centro Storico-Piazza Grande-Parcheggio n. 8. From this point, at every intersection you must take the road going up.
- ascending Via dei Filosofi, pass the entrance to Parcheggio 8. At the intersection, take a hard right and shortly after a hard left (still ascending), and follow the signs for "Duomo-Fortezza-Centro Storico"

From the airports of: Pisa – 2h 30 min; Florence – 1h. 30 min; Rome Ciampino – 2h, or Rome Fiumicino – 2h 30 min.

By train:
Take the Rome-Florence line, get off at the Chiusi station. From the station you can get a taxi or bus to Montepulciano
