Berghotel Zirmerhof

High above the Etsch Valley, on the sun drenched Radein Terrace, lies the Zirmerhof (1560 m). An ancient country manor with essential flair – honoured as South Tyrols ’Historic Hotel of the Year 2010’ – is recipe for a magic mountain atmosphere in the southern part of South Tyrol.

It’s quiet up here – the stillness is unbroken by traffic noise or other disturbances. The view encompasses the majestic glaciated peaks of the Ortles Group and more than 100 other pinnacles of the Brenta, the Presanella, all the way over to the Ötz Valley and the Stubaier Alps.

In 1890, when the country manor first opened its doors to travellers too, most of the guests were aristocrats, government dignitaries, artists, and scientists from Vienna, Leipzig, and Berlin who had discovered the health giving effects of the alpine landscape.

The original wooden beams have seen hundreds of years of alpine farming history as has the panelled Tyrolean stube, the library and the ceramic tile stoves and open fireplaces. The individually styled rooms and suites have been carfully renovated in forth generation by the Perwanger Familiy. The structural heritage and the essential flair from the early years have been retained thereby.

Particularly beautiful: the sunny terraces and the outdoor pool with the spa aera. Local cuisine can be savoured in the grand dining room. The home farm supplies fresh naturally grown and reared produce and its vineyard in the valley aromatic Gewürztraminer wine.
