Castel Pergine

The Castel Pergine is a storybook castle hotel perfect for the budget-minded tourist. No need to forfeit romance, for even though the Castel Pergine is good value for money, it has a fabulous location dominating a hilltop above the town of Pergine. The Castel Pergine is more famous as a restaurant than a hotel—the dining room has an engaging medieval decor, gorgeous views, and good food. When Verena and Theo Schneider-Neff came from Switzerland and took over the hotel, they made many improvements, including installing a state-of-the-art kitchen. They also upgraded the bedrooms and added snug showers to some of them. Keep in mind that this is a budget hotel, so don’t expect luxurious accommodations. And, be sure to request one of the superior guestrooms with a private bathroom. The accommodations range from rather simple to comfortably charming, the more expensive having en-suite showers, handsome wooden paneling, and country-style furnishings. Room 27, a corner room, is especially pretty, but the beds are shorter and narrower than in the other superior rooms. The Castel Pergine is a real bargain and its secluded hilltop setting is definitely a winner.
