Whether you want to take advantage of some of the best skiing in the country or prefer invigorating hikes up lush green mountain trails in summertime, the Dolomites mountain range will leave you spellbound. Ortisei is one of the main towns in Val Gardena and a busy place, especially during Christmas and August. This is a region with a distinct Tyrolean flavor where more German is spoken than Italian and more wurstel served than pasta. The Stuflesser family, naturals in the hospitality business, have put an impressive addition onto their house near the old barn of the farm as a result of their success as a hotel. In fact, everything about the place is crisp and new, from the white exterior to the pinewood-paneled entrance, bar, and dining room, modeled after the typical stuben style, with a wood-burning ceramic heater where Signora Stuflesser creates traditional meals made with cheeses, yoghurt, marmalades and bread. There is also a large international selection of over 400 wines. Comfortable bedrooms with balconies to the back overlooking green-wooded hills, the town below, and distant mountains are slightly higher in rate. Typical of this area, they have built-in wooden furniture and white down covers on the beds. The Hotel Digon offers all the amenities of a hotel with the warmth of a family home.
