Romantik Hotel Turm

Sitting high above the valley, the delightful village of Völs nestles beneath the Schlern Mountain—hence you see local signposts for Völs am Schlern. At the heart of the village the Romantik Hotel Turm dates back to the 13th century when it functioned as a castle. Today it is certainly not a castle of drafty corridors and sparse rooms but a delightful hotel that displays its castle origins in its barrel-vaulted rooms and thick stone walls. Instead of a gloomy dungeon you have an indoor whirlpool-jacuzzi (as well as an outdoor one set on a grassy garden terrace). The art collection, started by Karl Pramstrahler, lines every available inch of wall space and includes everything from old oil paintings to contemporary art. Stefan Pramstrahler is responsible for the delicious food and runs the hotel. Bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes, from lovely rooms set beneath the eaves to a turret suite with a four-poster bed and a little house (Wagenhaus) with a sitting room and child’s bedroom downstairs, and a master bedroom upstairs. Amenities include a full spa with swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, wine bath, solarium, and massage services.

The thick, solid walls and vaults of the tower go back to the 13th century. Originally belonging to the Baron of Colonna, then a law tower and after that a village guest house, today it is a stylish hotel, family-run and famed for its remarkable art collection.
