Karen's Review Of This Property:

Hugging the crest of a rocky coastal mountain rising 750 meters above Trapani, Erice’s authentic testimony to yesteryear is broken only by several tall communication towers just outside the ancient walls. This appealing town of twisting cobbled streets makes a convenient overnight stop when visiting the Greek temple and theater at Segesta. As you wind up the hill toward Erice, watch for the parking area near Porta Trapani: leave your car here and walk through the arched stone entrance and up the Via Vittorio Emanuele to the Hotel Moderno. The intimate reception area has a definite old-fashioned feeling. A hallway leads to a lounge accented by chairs grouped around small round tables where guests can just relax or enjoy a cold drink from the adjacent bar. A stone staircase leads up to the modest guestrooms in the main building, all of which are immaculately clean and fresh with whitewashed walls and white-tiled floors. Some bedrooms are decorated with light knotty-pine furniture; others have an antique motif. One of my favorites, room 35, has a handsome king-sized iron headboard with brass trim and an antique armoire. About half of the guestrooms are located in an annex just across the street in another very old building that has been renovated. These guestrooms are a bit more spacious and equally pleasant. Of the total 40 bedrooms, six have a balcony.
