Hotel Regina

In an industrial city where the word “charm” is practically nonexistent, the Hotel Regina, although not inexpensive, came as a pleasant surprise among the rather nondescript modern hotels in Milan. For those flying in and out of Milan, with a desire to catch a glimpse of the city center (and newly restored Last Supper of Da Vinci), this is an ideal selection. The attractive, typically 18th-century facade and entrance invite guests into a luminous reception area, converted from the original courtyard, with stone columns, arches, marble floors, large plants, and a small corner bar with sitting area and tables. Completely refurbished rooms include all modern amenities and are very quiet, being set off the street. Decorated comfortably and uniformly with identical furniture, rooms are warmed with soft-pastel-colored walls, parquet floors, and scattered Oriental rugs. A full buffet breakfast is served below and is included in the room rate. Manager Michela is helpful in satisfying guests’ requests and bicycles are available for visiting the city’s historical center. Linate airport is easily reached by cab in 20 minutes, while the Malpensa airport can be reached by bus from the train station. Rate discounts are given for weekend stays.
