Hotel Santa Maria

We really liked the location of this hotel and the fact that it’s on one level surrounding a courtyard (like an up-scale motel) so if you object to ’schlepping’ luggage up steep stairs or cramming into small elevators, this is the place for you. We really liked the location of this hotel and the fact that it’s on one level surrounding a courtyard (like an up-scale motel) so if you object to ’schlepping’ luggage up steep stairs or cramming into small elevators, this is the place for you. We were there in November so it was too cold to enjoy the outdoor areas but the breakfast room and bar are very nice. The breakfast buffet was very good and included fruit, cheese, meats and scrambled eggs along with the customary assortment of breads, cakes and jams. We had dinner at 3 different restaurants within a short walk of the hotel, all of which were very good. Even in November with light off and on rain, the streets of the Trastevere were filled with people in the evenings walking, shopping and eating. The hotel is tucked away on a side street behind an electronic iron gate and is separated from the hustle and bustle of Roma by the Tiber River. The hotel staff were polite and helpful and arranged for a car/taxi to pick us up at the airport car return area and then deliver us back to the airport when we departed. We would most certainly stay here again.
