Karen's Review Of This Property:
The refreshingly unspoiled village of Santa Maria di Castellabate hugs the sea at the southern tip of the Bay of Salerno. Just steps away from this cluster of colorful houses and brightly painted fishing boats, the Palazzo Belmonte nestles in utter tranquility within its own 5-acre park, hidden behind high stone walls. There is not even a discreet sign at the massive gates to hint that you have arrived at a hotel. The palazzo is the estate of your charming host, Prince Belmonte, who opens both his home and heart to guests. Amazingly, the property has remained in the prince's family since it was built in the 17th century as a hunting lodge where the kings of Italy and Spain came to play. The magic begins the moment you enter through the vaulted portal into the central stone-walled courtyard where the scent of jasmine, roses, and honeysuckle perfumes the air. Prince Belmonte has his private residence on the top floor of the palazzo that also houses 21 guestrooms. Our favorite accommodations are the 30 new luxurious rooms (all with terrace or balcony) tucked in among the trees in the palace’s lovely park. A path through the garden leads to a beautiful swimming pool and beyond to a small “secret” gate which leads down to the palazzo’s private sandy beach. Dinner is often served on the terrace—to dine by candlelight under the stars by the sea is truly memorable. Meals are for guests only.
