Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Hotel Palumbo is a 12th-century palace, owned since 1875 by the Vuilleumier family. The location is perfect—high in the clouds overlooking terraced vineyards and beyond to the brilliant blue Mediterranean, which dances in and out of the jagged rocky coast. The romance begins when you enter the richly hued, ceramic-tiled lobby with its ancient atrium of arched colonnades, green plants flowing from every nook, masses of fresh flowers, and gorgeous antiques. Each small corner is an oasis of tranquility, from the intimate bar to the cozy antique-filled tiny lounges. There is a lovely dining room with a vaulted ceiling and a stunning painting by Guido Reni, but usually meals are served on the terrace, which perches like a bird’s nest in the sky. Wherever you dine, the food is excellent. There is a stunning garden with a Jacuzzi in the rear featuring a vine-covered terrace overlooking the Amalfi coast. Another tiny patio capturing both the sun and the view is tucked onto the roof of the villa. There are only 21 bedrooms—the size varies since this was an old villa, but all are individually decorated and have their own charming personality. A few guestrooms are located in a nearby annex. There is villa down by the sea where you can enjoy sunbathing and swimming. The Hotel Palumbo exudes a romantic ambiance and a wealth of old-world character.
