Karen's Review Of This Property:
The Masseria San Domenico opened its doors to guests in 1996. Not that the building is new—quite the contrary—the lovely old farmhouse (masseria) dates back to the 15th century. The age is immediately reconfirmed as you drive up to the hotel—both sides of the lane are bordered by groves of centuries-old olive trees with thick gnarled trunks and silvery-green leaves. Typical of the region, the large farm complex has a Moorish look, with white walls gleaming in the sunlight. However, the fact that this is no longer a rustic farm is quickly apparent: an enormous, lake-like swimming pool lies snuggled next to the hotel; there are two tennis courts; the food is outstanding; the beautifully decorated guestrooms are all spacious, with large tiled bathrooms, marble floors, crisp-white walls, cheerful drapes and matching bedspreads. The sea is 500 meters from the hotel and some of the rooms capture the bright blue of the Adriatic sparkling in the sun across an expanse of olive trees. It is also the source of the purified seawater used in their thalassotherapy spa. The hotel also offers an 18-hole golf course with a brand new 15-room guest house. The Masseria San Domenico makes the perfect choice if you are looking for a hotel offering every amenity, yet so superbly managed that you feel like a pampered guest in a small, family-run hotel.
