Karen's Review Of This Property:
Il Melograno is a rarity: a small, luxury hotel that is truly managed by the family, creating a warmth and cordiality seldom found in a hotel of this sophistication. Camillo Guerra oversees every detail of his hotel, ably assisted by his children. White walls enclose the large property whose core is a stunning, white, 16th-century fortified farmhouse, which for many years was the holiday retreat of the Guerra family. In 1985, Signor Guerra (an antique and fine-art dealer from Bari) decided to expand his home-away-from-home into a hotel. Taking meticulous care to preserve the hundreds of ancient olive trees, he built a series of superbly furnished guestrooms clustered in white Moorish-style buildings facing intimate patios. The original farmhouse now houses the reception, romantic bar, beautiful dining room, and various intimate lounges. Throughout, everything is decorated in antiques. Cheerful floral slipcovered chairs and Oriental carpets accent stark white walls and floors. One of the inner patios is a fragrant small orange grove, watered by an ancient stone irrigation system. Breakfast is served on the poolside terrace overlooking the pomegranate and fig trees. Il Melograno makes an excellent, luxurious base for exploring the fascinating Apulia region of southern Italy. The hotel also has a lovely spa with indoor pool.
