Karen's Review Of This Property:

The Salento area in the province of Lecce stretches down to the southern most tip of the heel and, as a peninsula, is surrounded on all sides by the sea. Scenic countryside within these parameters is characterized by endless kilometers of enormous, gnarled olive trees divided in sections with stone walls as property lines. The most treasured aspects of this regions are all represented at the Monacelli inn, a 15th century masseria and mill minutes away from the turquoise sea, surrounded by olive groves, plus warm Pugliese hospitality, and divine local food. The twelve bedrooms and suites are found among two fortress stone farmhouses complete with inner courtyard and watch tower and have been tastefully appointed with antique furnishings, canopy beds and modern bathrooms and many amenities. The Piccini family’s challenge was to restore the estate with guest’s comfort in mind and provide activities for all interests. The restaurant, Rifugio del Re, decorated naturally by the sand-colored stone walls enhanced by red tablecloths, uses all the farm’s own organic products. Even soaps and cosmetics are produced using the precious oil. A light lunch can be served at the edge of an expansive infinity pool set among the olive trees. A busy place and a good glimpse of life in Puglia.

Directions: Exit highway A14 at Bari Nord and follow for Brindisi. Take the expressway and exit at Squinzano, Casalabate, Cerrate. Follow signs for Casalabate and then for the Tenuta Monacelli.
