Tir Na Fiúise

Tir Na Fiúise offers you a perfect base for exploring the mid-west and Shannon region. Inez and Niall Heenan have converted the barns just down the lane from their farmhouse to self-catering accommodation rented by the week. The delightful cottages are decorated with a simple, fresh, country look. The kitchen/living areas feature solid-fuel stoves and modern appliances. The Hawthorns is a one- or two-bedroom cottage with king-sized beds. The Granary is a one-bedroom cottage just perfect for a couple getting away from it all to a cozy little nook, while The Stables has two bedrooms, making it more suitable for a family or larger group. The Lime Kiln also has two bedrooms and is larger than the Stables. The area has some excellent restaurants and local pubs, which also serve great food. You can cycle the quiet lanes, try your hand at fishing in the nearby lough, and join in village activities. On Sundays there’s traditional music in the nearby Derg Inn where the Heenan children often sing, play the fiddle and the concertina. On Thursday nights (July and August) there is Irish music and dance in the village hall. If you must rush off to tourist spots, Bunratty Folk Park is a 90-minute drive away (as is Shannon airport). Closer at hand are Clonmacnois and Birr Castle.
