Kapital Inn:
Having decided on 4 days in Budapest, we visited Trip Advisor looking for small hotel/B&B near the centre. We found Kapital Inn with 100% excellent reviews, so looked no further. Booking communication was quick, accurate and helpful. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and were welcomed by Albert, who is a young Hungarian educated in USA and hence speaks perfect American English. Now for the downsides: well there are none, absolutely none and we are picky. Kapital Inn is a top floor conversion of a grand old house, just one block back from the main drag, Andrassy, half way between the park (museums and superb thermal baths) and downtown, passing the Opera House and great restaurants on the way (takes 25mins on foot to downtown). The rooms are large, very tastefully decorated in a modern style, spotless and with all the facilities you need including air-con. The terrace is spectacular, with tables, chairs and loungers, again tasteful, modern and spotless. Shame there is ZERO view, except upwards to the blue sky. Half the terrace is covered if it is either too hot or too wet. There is a food bar open 24/7 for self service, tea, juice, water, milk, pastries, yoghurt, fruit, biscuits etc etc.. Breakfast is served there or on the terrace and Alfred does a mean omelette, not in the penny-pinching sense! A particular benefit is his real in-depth knowledge not only of the city, but also shrewdly of what you are likely to fancy. His advice re food, sights, times etc is spot on, and seems well tuned to your needs. I overheard him telling some younger people different things; he is really helpful. Actually there is a downside. There are quite a few steps from street level to your room, but worry not, IT IS REALLY WORTH IT. Jim and Jenny, UK Visited September 13/17 2009
