Tucked away amongst the winding lanes in the heart of the old town in Bernkastel-Kues, Mosel region, you will find ‘Älteste Weinstube’ (‘the oldest tavern’), a dazzlingly beautiful, medieval half-timbered building which has belonged to the hosts, the Krebs family, for generations.

Since Stefan Krebs, one of the region’s rising culinary talents, took over the running of the hotel, guests have been able to sleep a magical slumber like that of Sleeping Beauty or the fabled King Drosselbart, and dine like the Mosel prince on exquisite cuisine; welcoming and professional service included.

The foundation stone of the half-timbered building, one of the most beautiful in the region, gives the year of construction as 1678. Run as a vineyard by the Krebs family from the very beginning, first a tavern and a butcher’s shop were set up, and in the eighteenth century some guestrooms were added. From 2000 onwards, 15 small rooms have been turned into ten large rooms and suites, where guests are whisked away to a fairytale world.

The Robin Hood Room, decorated in green, tells epic tales of heroic adventure, the daintily romantic Sleeping Beauty Room stirs feelings of royal grandeur, and the cheeky Max and Moritz Room puts you in a good mood as soon as you step inside. Every beam of this labyrinthine, half-timbered edifice breathes its history, spanning more than 300 years – while at the same time it offers all the comforts of the modern day.
