Burg Hotel:
The Burg Hotel is a winning combination: a lovely hotel with an awesome view in a “must-visit” town. The Burg Hotel peers over Rothenburg’s ramparts to a sky-wide vista of the meandering River Tauber and a cluster of timber-framed cottages in a wooded valley. Enjoy this lovely view from the sunny breakfast room. Breakfast is the only meal served but this is not a problem as there are a great many restaurants within easy strolling distance. Guests can relax in the attractive little parlor with its 150-year-old mini-grand piano and lovely grandfather clock. The ground-floor Constantine Suite has a piano in the sitting room, a bedroom, and doors opening to the battlement terrace, which leads to one of the ancient watchtowers along the town’s walls. Whether bedrooms face out to “the view” or to the monastery garden towards town, all are absolutely delightful and stylishly decorated by Gabriele Berger. Gabriele grew up at the nearby Markusturm Hotel and being a gracious hôtelier is certainly in her blood. Just steps up the street, the hotel also offers a superb suite—a fabulous value for a family or group. Gabriele has converted the 700-year old dungeons under the hotel into a conference room and spa and wellness area. The hotel also owns the annex Hotel Burg Gartenpalais with Meistertrunk restaurant and 15 air conditioned rooms across the street.

Kind of hard to find in the dark, however, I called the hotel and they guided me through the town even though several roads were under construction. Very nice and modern hotel with great view over the river valley. The staff can recommend several good places to eat dinner, however, they tend to fill up fast, so make reservations the day before if possible. This is by far my favorite Hotel and town in Europe. We stayed in Rothenburg for two nights. One of the things we enjoyed and still talk about is waking up at 5:30a.m. and walking the entire length of the town wall (I think it was 2 miles?) then walked through the town. We did not see one person in the two hours we were exploring.
