Hotel Am Markt

Facing onto a pretty cobbled square, the Hotel Am Markt is an excellent choice for a moderately-priced place to stay in the historic heart of Baden-Baden. Although the room rates are amazingly low, the quality throughout the hotel is exceptional. The entrance is modest—just a simple hallway with a reception desk where you will probably be greeted by either Doris or Andrea, two gracious sisters who own and constantly upgrade this property. It is not until you go upstairs that the merits of the hotel are revealed. The guestrooms are tastefully decorated in a pleasing, uncluttered, modern style. One of our favorites, room 2, is especially spacious and has an excellent bathroom that outshines some found in deluxe hotels. Room 21 is also a real winner with windows that capture an appealing view of the rooftops of Baden-Baden. The high-ceilinged guestrooms on the first two floors are larger than those tucked under the eaves. There is an old-world charm in the dining room with its Windsor chairs arranged round little tables beneath the paneled ceiling, and the day’s newspapers hung on reading poles for guests to browse through. A few of the least expensive guestrooms do not have en suite bathrooms, so be sure to indicate your preference when making a reservation.
