La Bonne Étape
Haute Provence is a region of France whose beauty is bounded by the snow-covered Alps, the fields of lavender and olive trees of Provence, and the blue waters of the Riviera. Villages of soft stone and sienna-tiled roofs cluster on hilltops and dot this picturesque landscape. Haute Provence serves as an ideal resting spot when traveling between the regions that border it. La Bonne Étape is an old coaching inn, a gray-stone manor house with a tiled roof—blending beautifully with and suited to the landscape. From its location it enjoys panoramic views over the surrounding hills. Dating from the 18th century, the hotel has eleven bedrooms and seven apartments, all attractively decorated. The restaurant is recognized for the quality of its cuisine. Pierre Gleize and his son, Jany, employ local ingredients such as honey, lavender, herbs, lemon, lamb, and rabbit to create masterpieces in the kitchen. Dine in front of a large stone fireplace and sample some of their specialties. Exceeding the praise for the cuisine are the superlatives guests use to describe the hospitality extended by your charming hosts, the Gleize family.
