Karen's Review Of This Property:

La Mirande dates from the 14th century with various additions made to it in the 15th, 17th, and 18th centuries. It was the residence of Cardinal Armand de Pellegrue, nephew of Pope Clement V, and later a private residence for the mayor of Avignon. The Stein family came from Germany, fell in love with the property, and converted it to a luxury hotel with a desire to improve upon the four-star hotels they had experienced in their travels. They have exceeded their goals and created a superlative property. Every luxurious detail has been well thought out and implemented, seemingly without consideration of cost—only consideration of the guests and their comfort. A multitude of public rooms and the 20 guestrooms are beautifully appointed with rich fabrics and gorgeous antiques. The dining room has an absolutely stunning 15th-century French ceiling and needlepoint carpet, an Aubusson tapestry draping an entire wall, and is warmed by a large open fireplace in winter months. Dinner is served on the terrace patio on balmy summer nights. Overlooking the palace walls, La Mirande is spacious and luxurious, an oasis for its guests. It has even been said that, had the Pope ended up at La Mirande instead of across the street, he might never have returned to Rome.
