Romantik Hotel La Grande Bastide

Perched on a hillside just above the road, La Grande Bastide captures an enchanting view of Saint Paul de Vence, just a few minutes’ drive away. When it was purchased in the mid-1990s two years were spent in renovations and nothing was spared to make this a hotel of outstanding quality—especially for the moderate price. Although not rated as deluxe, this small hotel would certainly make any guest happy. Everything is fresh and pretty, and of excellent quality. You enter into a cheerful lounge area painted a deep yellow, setting off a collection of original art. This lounge opens onto a balcony overlooking a large swimming pool. Each guestroom is very pretty and individually decorated. The bathrooms are outstanding, each large and handsomely tiled. The owners of this hotel are Heinz and Rita Johner, who also own La Métairie in Millac, in the Dordogne, which we recommend—they divide their time between the two properties as well as a hotel in Switzerland. It is their warmth of welcome that makes this small hotel truly special and the fact that they successfully strive to make everyone feel like a guest in a private home.
