Hotel Chateau Du Breuil

It was an immense joy to spend my last birthday at the Château du Breuil. We arrived on a sunny September day, drove up the long shady drive which leads to the renaissance style chateau. I love old stones, the old tower here dates back to the 15th century whilst the more majestic one dates back to the 18th century. We were warmly welcomed by the owner herself who helped us choose which chateaux we were going to visit during our stay. Our room was in the Verger, or Orchard, tucked a few steps away from the chateau. It’s a different place, very countrified, with a pond, ducks, horses and 2 lovely Irish setters. The room, recently decorated in pastel colours was furnished with period furniture and had a ceiling canopy over the bed. I was already sure we were going to spend a wonderful and memorable week-end. Early evening, we had a glass of sparkling wine on the terrace to make the most of the last rays of sun. At my husband’s request, we were seated in a secluded part of the large dining room for a romantic candlelight dinner. The delicious mouthwatering cuisine was worthy of a starred chef: pan fried foie gras served with a mildly spiced apple chutney, thick cod fillet with basil and softened fennel, chived vegetable pearls, succulent goat’s cheese, and for dessert, an artist’s palate of gourmandizes made from locally grown strawberries. I was under a spell and can still remember it all so vividly. As the Chateau du Breuil is in the heart of the Loire Valley, the choice for the following day’s activities was huge. We decided to visit Chambord and Tintin’s famous Moulinsart chateau in Cherverny. To conclude, I would quite simply say the place is magical, the hospitality warm and personalized. I am English living just outside Paris and I love these country hotels where you can escape the hustle and bustle, to spend a quiet intimate moment.
