Baudon de Mauny

This is a lovely Chambres d'Hote of 5 grand rooms each with private bath. The building is an historic Hotel Particulaire, which means it was a grand 19th century private residence with a front courtyard and a private backyard. It has been in the same family for nearly 200 years. The current owner is a sophisticated custodian of this magnificent space. There are 2 rooms on the french 1st floor and then 3 more on the french 2nd floor. A common salon is available if you wish to sit quietly in a sunny space and read a book. But the two rooms we reserved were each so enormous, and both had chairs or loveseats or both and so the salon served only as a meeting room when we would gather in mornings or before dinner. There is some minor street noise (cats, occasional service truck) but generally the spaces are very quiet. The original building is very elegant with exceptionally high ceilings, enormous windows that open out onto large stone sills wide enough to use as sunny window seats. The walls are plastered with amazing details : cherubs, doves, fruit baskets, musical instruments. The ceilings equally are detailed. The floors are made of enormous rectangles of grey limestone slabs, worn and soft and cool under your feet. Each room has a fireplace but modern heating suffices well to take the occasional chill off the room. The bathrooms are modern and spotless and chic. The owner is a friendly French gentleman with a wonderful command of English and a rich and charming French accent. He will give you excellent restaurant suggestions, cultural tips for the neighborhood and insight into the history of his home. Additionally, for a small additional tarif, if you ask nicely, they will provide an superb continental breakfast. I highly recommend it.
