Relais des Trois Mas

Relais des Trois Mas terraces up a hillside and is spread around a little cove and public beach, directly across the picturesque port. A brick passageway, walls adorned with beautiful tiles designed with motifs of impressionist paintings, weaves along the terraced gardens and past the pool and the three Mas (old farm buildings) that house the guestrooms and restaurant. Guestrooms are named for the many artists once attracted to this idyllic spot. Whether the Van Gogh room, a smaller room, or the Matisse, the grandest room of all; all the guestrooms enjoy the view across the water to the scenic port town. Priced for the magnificence of the setting; rooms are comparatively expensive. Matisse is magnificent—composed of one large room that accommodates a living room, writing area, bedroom, full length of window—its French doors open to a private garden equal in size to the room. On a budget, I would request a standard room; but do splurge for a private terrace or balcony. It is the view and setting you should take advantage of as they are the reasons for staying here. Bathrooms are appropriately adorned with a tile relief that copies a painting of the room’s namesake. The gourmet restaurant is located below the guestrooms and, whether you dine indoors or on the outdoor balcony, the views are as memorable as the cuisine. It is possible to walk to town, but the road is busy.
