Saint James Paris

The Saint James Paris is an elegant property situated in the exclusive residential district of Paris: the "Seizième" or Sixteenth Arrondissement. A regal Napolean III residence, the Saint James was built in 1892 by Madame Dosne-Thiers as a memorial to her husband, Adolph Thiers, President of the French Republic. As the Adolph Thiers foundation it served  for over one hundred years as a residence to France’s most outstanding students. It was first converted to a gentleman’s club by a British businessman in 1986. Today it functions as an exclusive, private club as well as a hotel and under the superb direction of Yves Monnin, staff graciously welcome and tend to the desires of both members and overnight guests. An extremely revered club, accountability to a very sophisticated membership ensures high standards of comfort, service, ambiance and excellence. An imposing arched entry frames the handsome manor, which is set back behind a lovely large fountain and circular drive. Handsome doors open to reveal a dramatic entry dominated by a wide, grand stairway. White walls ornamented with black trim as well as white and black tile floors contrast dramatically with runners of rich, red carpet that direct your path through the spacious rooms of this magnificent residence as well as the striking, red painted doors.  Esteemed decorator, Bambi Sloane is responsible for the attractive, unique and somewhat whimsical decor. Her selection of gorgeous coordinating fabrics and handsome furnishings is brilliant and stunning. Adding to the fanciful decor, an array of colorful hot air balloons adorn the wallpaper that dresses many of the public stair and hallways and ornamental chandeliers address the history of when the property served as Paris’  first airfield.  Each of the forty-eight bedrooms and suites are luxurious and dramatic in their individual decor whose theme is inspired by its namesake. The John Steede Room, for example, whose walls are dressed in Hermes shirt fabric and offer a display of top hats and walking canes is very masculine while the Madeleine Castaing room is opulent and quite feminine. All guestrooms are equipped with every imaginable comfort, from exterior blinds that open and close at the touch of a switch within reach of the bed to a coffee table that rises to accommodate a morning breakfast tray.  Appropriate to its British ties, the hotel has a richly decorated library bar as well as a lovely dining room whose doors open on to the expanse of back garden.  Both the bar and restaurant menu reflect the excellence of the kitchen.  Descend to what was once the basement  for one of Paris’ most incredible full service spas-incredible!
