Château de Bourron:

A really charming family-owned chateau set in a 100 acre wooded park just south of the town of Fontainebleau, where the owners, M et Mme de Cordon, have set aside a part of the chateau as 'chambres d'hotes'; up-market bed and breakfast. Both my hosts are rightly very proud of their chateau, which they are steadily restoring. A range of beautifully decorated bedrooms and bathrooms which would put to shame many a five-star hotel. Breakfast of freshly baked croissants from the village bakery - Madame got up specially early to fetch me mine on the Sunday morning when I had to leave early - baguettes and hot chocolate. I loved walking round the park and woods early in the morning and admiring the moats and the alleys of lime trees. In the former stables across the park is a superb restaurant, les Premices, where I enjoyed gourmet meals at a fraction of Paris prices and without the snooty waiters. This is a great base to visit the Chateaux of Vaux, Fontainebleau and Courances, to explore the wooded rides of Fontainebleau forest and to visit the art galleries and musueums of Barbizon.

We had the least expensive room, which was reached by elevator, on the third floor. Beds were large and very comfortable, beautiful color scheme, decor and views. Suitable for handicapped use, the bathroom had topnotch facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful, and Guy answered all requests and arranged for faxing documents.
