Lower Brook House

Blockley is a delightful Cotswold village, a haven of peace and calm conveniently located just a few miles from the hustle and bustle of tourist-thronged Broadway, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Chipping Campden. Lower Brook House is created from two silk workers’ cottages dating back to the early 1600’s. The cottage origins are reflected in its exposed beams and wall timbers, the cozy parlor with large, stone-faced inglenook fireplace and the snug, flagstone-floored, dining room with its individual square tables and ladderback chairs. A narrow, winding staircase (don’t bring huge cases) leads to the bedrooms, all named after various silk mills that have long since ceased to operate in the village. As might be expected, no two are the same, all having been carefully fit into the existing structure. Decorated in soft earth tones, all are artfully presented, comfortable beds, crisp linens, a carefully chosen mix of antiques and collectibles, flat-screen TV’s and/or DVD players and modern luxuriously efficient bathrooms en suite. Free-standing baths, whirlpool spa tubs, walk-in showers. Take your pick, we liked them all. Use Lower Brook House as a base for your explorations from Oxford to Stratford-upon-Avon.
