A lot of water has passed under the bridge since John C spent boyhood holidays with his grandma at Gilpin Lodge. What started out as a traditional country house hotel has been transformed into a sophisticated destination, while still keeping all the personal touches of family and long-term staff’s hands-on involvement. Stroll through the gardens to visit the llamas or enjoy a massage or treatment in the privacy of your room. A stone’s throw away is Windermere golf course. A ferry takes you across the lake to Near Sawrey and Beatrix Potter’s home. Wordsworth fans head for Rydal House and Dove Cottage, while walkers head for the hills.
