Karen's Review Of This Property:

Plumber Manor has been a country home of the Prideaux Brune family since the early 17th century. Portraits hanging in the upstairs gallery hint at the grandeur of the family’s past. (There is also a portrait of Charles I, which he personally presented to his mistress, a member of the family.) Billed as a restaurant with bedrooms, Plumber Manor is under the personal supervision of the family. Richard and Alison Prideaux Brune look after guests; Brian Prideaux Brune, the chef, conscientiously provides a high standard of cuisine and wine. Six comfortable, spacious bedrooms are in the main house and, just across the garden, ten rooms surround a courtyard. Our favorites are 14, 15, 16, and 17—spacious, two-level rooms with luxurious modern bathrooms. Ten miles away lies Milton Abbas, a picture-perfect village of thatched cottages built in 1770 by the Earl of Dorchester who had the old village razed because it interfered with his view. Another pretty village is Cerne Abbas with thatched and Tudor cottages, 7 miles north of Dorchester (Hardy’s Casterbridge). Within reach are Salisbury, Longleat, and the many attractions in and around Bath.
