The Lugger Hotel

Karen's Review Of This Property:
Sitting beside the harbor, the whitewashed Lugger Hotel was for many years the village hostelry and reputedly the haunt of smugglers. Indeed, for such a crime, the landlord, Black Dunstan, was hanged in the 19th century. Nowadays Portloe, while having its share of holiday homes, remains a real working fishing village with crab and lobster pots just where we wanted to park the car. Fishing boats rested in the tiny harbor, sheltered by imposing cliffs and all but invisible from the sea. Outfitted in a tasteful contemporary style, the Lugger includes the reception area, a bar, a cozy beamed sitting room, the harbor-overlook restaurant and several bedrooms, the majority of which are to be found in three additional village buildings. The premier rooms have harbor views and/or a terrace. A few steps from your front door you may stride along the Cornish coastal path with its ocean panoramas. A short drive puts you in St Mawes or on the unspoiled white sandy beaches at Pendower and Carne. The Eden Project is a 40- minute drive away while the Lost Gardens of Heligan are closer. St Ives with its artists and galleries is a worthwhile daytrip.
