The Old Coastguard Sketch

Karen's Review Of This Property:

Mousehole (pronounced Mowzel) is a picture-postcard Cornish fishing village full of little cottages. Narrow streets surround its sheltered, boat-filled harbor making it a quaint spot popular with artists. Just beyond the harbor you find the Old Coastguard Hotel occupying, as the name suggests, the one-time headquarters of the coastguard. Built in 1903 the property is now a comfortable modern hotel. Coastal views abound across a broad expanse of a sub-tropical garden. With twelve of the fourteen bedrooms featuring sea views, we recommend you request one with a terrace or balcony—all the better for enjoying those balmy summer evenings. Rooms are generally not large and, as expected in an old building, several that we saw had unusual configurations. The restaurant and sun lounge also share magnificent views across the bay. Food is locally sourced and there are always several fish choices on the menu. Enjoy the swimming hole on the rocky shore or walk the coastal footpath to explore both faces of this most southerly peninsula. The north coast is pounded by wild Atlantic rollers and the south is more protected. Travel to the artists’ colony of St Ives to visit The Tate museum and St Michaels Mount, an isle in Mount’s Bay linked to the mainland by a causeway.
