Karen's Review Of This Property:
Castle Combe is a picture-perfect example of a Cotswold village, gold-stone buildings, slate roofs, exposed timbers, and burbling stream. The last house was constructed in 1647. This idyllic setting with the complete absence of street lights and television aerials has won the “Prettiest Village in England” award many times and provided the backdrop for such famous movies as Dr. Doolittle. Nestled in the market place, you’ll find the Castle Inn Hotel. Narrow hallways and staircases lead to guestrooms in a wide range of shapes and sizes with low doorways, crooked walls, beams and exposed stone walls. All are most attractively kitted out with antiques, nice bathrooms and flat screen televisions. Sophisticated cottage atmosphere without being cramped. Lie in bed in room 9 and admire the intricate support beams for the roof. Exposed beams are a real feature of spacious room 5. Room 4 is particularly glamorous with a large four-poster bed, two large windows overlooking the market cross, and an extra large bathroom. Breakfast is served in the conservatory or (weather permitting) outside on the patio. The old wood-beamed restaurant, walls hung with hunting scenes, is open for dinner and a reasonably priced international wine list is available. Retire to the fire in one of the lounges, or sample one of the impressive inventory of single malt whiskies.
