Metamorphis Hotel

The Metamorphis Hotel, although not directly in the Old Town Square (as is its sister hotel, the Black Fox), it also has a sensational location. A short, three-minute walk along a quaint cobbled lane leads from the Old Town Square to the pedestrian-only Tyn Square (also called Ungelt Courtyard), which UNESCO lists as a world heritage site. Located in the southeast part of the square you find Metamorphis Hotel. This is the area of Prague where in the 12^th century merchants lived and sold their wares. Its colorful history is evidenced by a picturesque square enhanced by arcaded walkways, the Tyn Cathedral, charming merchants’ homes, and a covered portal (the Ungelt Gate) that served as a custom station. The Metamorphis Hotel is within several buildings. The major part of the hotel (located near the Ungelt Gate) houses the reception area and most of the accommodations. These guestrooms (many of them suites or connecting rooms perfect for families) are spacious and decorated with antique-style furnishings. Additional guestrooms are found nearby in a separate building. At first glance you wouldn’t dream this could be part of the hotel because the guestrooms are secreted behind a massive wood gate that leads to an interior courtyard that appears as if in bygone centuries it might have stabled horses. These guestrooms, which are on a tier of balconies facing the interior courtyard, are more simply decorated than those in the main part of the hotel, but they are very comfortable. The Metamorphis makes an excellent choice for accommodations: a superbly located hotel with more reasonable rates than those found in many of Prague’s deluxe hotels.
