If you just want to relax and enjoy the Croatian Coast Villa Astra is the place. The pool is salt water and perfect. The staff is perfection, attentive but not intrusive. It’s what we all hope for but rarely receive… to arrive a guest and leave a friend. The property is located between Lovran and Opatija . From the pool area you have access to the 15 KM long sea coast walk way built in the 1800’s. You can stroll to beaches and swimming coves… or get your work out in with a flat out power walk. Here’s the real news, the kitchen is outstanding and the Croatian wines on the list are of exceptional quality. The wait staff, Zoran and Mile, also knows what they are talking about. They are locals who know the wines, what’s fresh out of the garden and can be totally trusted. Just tell them what you feel like and they will be spot on. This is a place for a great dinner while sipping the best Croatian wines on offer. The chef, Haris, is a master at his craft. Helpful Hint: If your only staying a couple of days… You can get oven roasted rabbit and lamb, both locally free range raised, but they need a days notice….so… when you make your reservation I’d book a table for the first night and pre-order. Marsha and I have had rabbit all over the world and this is perhaps the best. Haris can do magic in the oven and the vegetables… all from local sources, including the Villa’s own organic gardens on the hills overlooking the Adriatic. The best part was the next day we had rabbit sandwiches at lunch with our leftovers. Where in the world would a kitchen save you your leftovers so you can have a great sandwich the next day? While you can’t go crazy… if you want something special that’s not on the menu they don’t give you that “eyes rolled to the heavens” look. They really want to accommodate. Breakfast at Villa Astra is as important as any other meal, under the funny, entertaining, but watchful eye of Sanja, the orange juice is fresh squeezed and all is fresh including the home make breads each day. It’s hot here in the summer and the skies are cloudless so bring lots of lotion. The best part of this place, if you want to sleep at night, is the air-conditioning, it works perfectly.

My family is from a small town 30 minutes across the island of Krk from this beautiful Villa. I loved the Villa Astra! Our room was amazing with the windows looking over the Adriatic, the food was superb, the setting is very romantic. I went with my sisters and my nieces. We were a group of 7 women and felt very safe and welcoming. The boardwalk right out in front of the Villa is a must do. Please go and enjoy this special place. I can hardly wait to return.
