Lost Whale Inn

The Lost Whale, a gray-wash Cape-Cod house with blue trim is set on over 9 acres of windswept Northern Californian coast. The mood is set by the living room with its wood floors warmed by throw rugs and comfortable sofas arranged to enjoy not only the fireplace but also the magnificent view across the garden, through the towering pine trees to the ocean. Four rooms capture this same glorious view while two overlook the northern gardens. Whichever room you select, you will find it decorated in a light, airy style. We particularly liked the ground floor room with its gossamer draped four poster bed set beneath a skylight. Several rooms have an extra bed to accommodate a child and two have a sleeping loft. Whereas most inns discourage children, at The Lost Whale they are made genuinely welcome. Relax in the hot tub, on the deck or on well-placed chairs in a quiet corner of the garden and listen to the crashing waves and the distant barking of sea lions. Stroll down the cliff path to the 2-mile private beach or pop into your car for the short drive up the road to Patrick’s Point State Park with its miles of beaches, walking paths along rocky headlands, and the opportunity to explore a re-created Indian village. The Lost Whale is a homey inn in a spectacular setting.
