Dunbar House, 1880

After the 49er gold boom Murphys dozed quietly under its locust and elm trees until, more recently, tourists discovered its charms. Just off Main Street within easy walking distance to town Dunbar House, 1880 is a handsome Victorian with a wraparound porch where guests can sit and sip Gold Country wine or enjoy a refreshing glass of lemonade. Rich and Arline have lavished time and attention to ensure that every room in their home has as many amenities as possible, at the same time focusing on preserving the privacy of their clientele. Each guestroom has a gas log fireplace, a small refrigerator, water, beer, a bottle of wine and an appetizer plate, instant hot water for making hot drinks, and a flat-screen direct TV/DVD player hidden away in an armoire. The Sequoia room has a king-size bed and a two-person whirlpool bath. The Cedar room, just off the downstairs parlor, has a small sitting room with a Jacuzzi tub and a private porch. Upstairs, the Ponderosa room has a king bed, large claw-foot tub and views of the garden, and Sugar Pine is a two-room suite with a private balcony. Up the steep attic stairs you find the spacious Blue Oak room with its sloping ceilings and a large sundeck. Breakfast is served in the Dining room or rose garden. The Cedar and Sequoia Rooms offer private in-room or patio dining.
