The Lamp Lighter

Built in 1912 the Lamp Lighter is one of the oldest inns in California. It has an ideal location just steps from the beach and the town. Painted white with blue trim and set in a pretty garden the Lamp Lighter is one of Carmel’s most photographed inns. Hansel & Gretel is the largest with a bedroom downstairs and a loft that opens up to the living room below with its wood-burning fireplace. Bluebird has a ground floor bedroom and twin beds tucked in a loft. Early Bird is our particular favorite, one spacious room bathed with light through a large window. Next door, Katydid is the smallest. Treetop is an especially private room nestled at the back of the garden with a private deck accessed through the closet. Next to the tiny reception area is the most luxurious accomodation, the Concours Suite. Set under a lofty white painted ceiling and beams, it has a lovely large living room warmed by a wood burning fireplace, a spacious bedroom nook partitioned off by drapes and a luxurious bath. A breakfast of muffins, juice and yogurt is delivered to your room. Dogs are welcome. There’s also a coffee maker, fresh fruit, candy and a decanter of sherry.
