Hotel Alpenrose

In every book there are a few favorites—inns that incorporate all the ingredients for a perfect little hotel. The Hotel Alpenrose is such an inn. One of the reasons this hotel is so special is the charm of the owner, Frau Gutwinski, who from early morning until late evening continues to orchestrate her establishment with grace and skill. She and her welcoming staff radiate charm, speak excellent English, and strive to make every detail welcoming and perfect. In addition to the friendly welcome, the hotel has many other attributes: it is conveniently located (on a small side street just a block from the heart of the interesting medieval town of Feldkirch), it is very old (dating back to 1550), and it has many antiques. The guestrooms are quite charming—each different and furnished with loving care and a few well-chosen antiques. Those on the top floor (the latest part of the hotel to be renovated) are the most deluxe. Number 31, a suite with windows looking out over the rooftops to the castle on the mountain, is especially romantic. The ambiance throughout is more that of a private home than a commercial hotel. Summer evenings find you dining outside under the linden tree, an exquisite place to relax after a day’s sightseeing. In inclement weather the same delicious fare is offered inside in the delightful restaurant where a buffet breakfast is served in the morning.
